How does GateKeeper work?

Gatekeeper is a Bluetooth Low Energy device and uses Bluetooth to communicate/connect with other devices. Your Gatekeeper comes with a (Bluetooth enabled) USB lock which we recommend you use, instead of using the Bluetooth on your PC/laptop/tablet. For the best performance, you want to ensure the dongle is in the line of sight of your Gatekeeper, USB extension cables can be used if necessary to achieve this.

Will GateKeeper work with the Bluetooth on a PC/laptop/tablet?

Yes. Gatekeeper will connect to devices with Windows 10 and Bluetooth 4.0 and above. However, it will not currently work with Mac devices. For the best performance, we recommend using the USB dongle supplied with your Gatekeeper and not the Bluetooth on your PC/laptop/tablet.

Why isn’t my Gatekeeper wireless key being detected?

Firstly check the battery in your Gatekeeper. Is there one installed? Is it flat? – if there is a red light flashing on your Gatekeeper the battery needs replacing (see below). Once you’ve checked the battery, scan again to pair the devices. If the Gatekeeper still can’t be found, you may need to reposition your USB dongle. To work effectively, the USB dongle and Gatekeeper wireless key must be in sight of one another. Ensure there are no obstructions between the two and if necessary use a USB extension cable to place the USB lock in a more receptive position. Other Bluetooth enabled devices may interfere with the connection so try to avoid having these in close proximity to the USB Lock or Gatekeeper.

Why does my device keep locking unexpectedly?

To work effectively, the USB dongle and Gatekeeper wireless key must be in sight of one another. Ensure there are no obstructions between the two and if necessary use a USB extension cable to place the USB lock in a more receptive position. Other Bluetooth enabled devices may interfere with the connection so try to avoid having these in close proximity to the USB Lock or Gatekeeper. If you’re happy with the positioning of both devices, you may just need to re-train your Gatekeeper and reset the distance settings via the Customer Portal.

How long will the battery in my GateKeeper last?

The battery should last 3-6 months depending on use.

How will I know when the battery needs replacing?

The light on a GateKeeper will flash red when the battery needs replacing. Your IT department will also receive a notification when your battery is running low.

How do I replace the battery in my GateKeeper?

GateKeeper takes a CR2450 battery. To change the battery in your device, simply slide open the back of the Gatekeeper, take out the old battery and insert a new battery in its place (ensuring the ‘+’ is facing outwards), finally slide the back onto the Gatekeeper.

Where can I download the latest GateKeeper client software from?

You’ll find links to download the latest software for Windows and MacOS on the Version Updates tab on the GateKeeper page.

What is the GateKeeper Chrome extension?

The GateKeeper Chrome extension is the web password manager that installs along with the GateKeeper application and provides users secure access to their web login credentials. Its capabilities include auto-filling usernames and passwords, supports password generation, and two-factor authentication to generate OTPs which eliminates the need for apps such as Google Authenticator. It is also capable of capturing QR codes to generate OTP secrets. Please make sure to have your GateKeeper hardware token or Trident app (soft token) on your smartphone before installing.

Is the GateKeeper Client desktop application required to communicate with Halberd/Trident?

Yes, the Halberd/Trident can only be paired to your computer using the GateKeeper Client desktop application.

What are the dimensions and weight of the GateKeeper?

The dimensions of the GateKeeper Halberd token are 3.25″ L x 1.5″ W x 0.5″ H. With the coin cell battery installed, the GateKeeper token weighs 23 grams.
